For those of you interested in attempting the National 3 Peaks - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not doubt your abilities or let your ambitions become clouded. The 3 Peaks are achievable by all participants with average fitness and a positive outlook on life, coupled with some solid training and suitable clothing and equipment.
This is not to say that the challenge is easy...far from it! but that's what makes success far more rewarding and satisfying. At some stage during every 3 Peaks challenge someone will doubt their ability to continue and think that they are the weakest link, the un-fittest, the most tired or simply believe that they are never going to make it. - Forget all of these doubts for everyone will struggle at some stage, believe me! The racing snakes tend to suffer on Snowdon by setting off too fast on Ben Nevis, the 'not so fit' tend to struggle on Ben Nevis because its a shock to the system but find their pace on Scafell, and most generally tend to struggle on Scafell due to its long approach but find Snowdon refreshes their determination once the two 'biggies' are in the bag.
